The Pig at Bridge Place

Elevate your standard weekend dog walk with this fast, light 10km circular loop through the Kent countryside. We start with wood-fired pizza in the dog-friendly Kitchen Garden at The Pig at Bridge Place, hit the off-lead woodland trails, and end with a pint at the local Red Lion.

This route elevates the standard weekend dog walk into a truly premium outdoor experience, combining beautiful Kent countryside with two exceptional, dog-friendly venues in the village of Bridge. We mapped this fast, light 10km circular loop to start and finish at the stunning grounds of The Pig at Bridge Place. The trail itself offers a brilliant balance of shaded, ancient woodland tracks to keep the dogs cool, opening up into expansive, sun-drenched agricultural fields with hard-packed, fast-moving ground.

Pre-Hike Fuel: The Pig at Bridge Place

To do this route right, we highly recommend arriving early to fuel up before hitting the trail. We parked directly on-site and headed straight to the Kitchen Garden.

Dining Logistics

The Garden Oven operates daily from 12:00 PM to 6:00 PM (seating is casual, drop-in, weather-dependent and seasonal). The wood-fired food here is incredible and extremely popular.

Dog Rules

Dogs are warmly welcomed in the Kitchen Garden and on the outdoor terrace, but they are strictly restricted from entering the main house.

Bonus: For those wanting to stretch their legs without the dog pulling, daily garden tours depart at 11:00 AM.

Important Note: Outside of the Garden Oven’s active hours, you can still relax on the terrace with your dog and enjoy a drink, but food service is limited.

Traildog Trail Notes

Terrain & Stiles

Expect rolling farm tracks and minimal road walking. There are a couple of classic wooden stiles to negotiate; they are perfectly manageable, but smaller or older dogs may need a quick lift over the top.

Off-Lead Zones

Once you clear the immediate village roads, the wide farm tracks and dense woodland corridors provide massive, safe stretches for your dog to bound ahead off-lead.

Livestock Watch

The valleys are mostly clear, but keep an eye out for standard Kent sheep grazing in the open fields, be prepared to clip the lead back on quickly as you approach agricultural gates.

Water Sources

While the route crosses near the Nailbourne stream, it can run completely dry in warm weather. You absolutely must pack a dedicated water bottle and travel bowl for your dog on this loop.

The Finish Line: The Red Lion

Because our 10k loop took us into the evening, the Kitchen Garden at The Pig was closed by the time we returned to the car. Fortunately, the incredibly dog-friendly Red Lion is just a short walk down the road in the village of Bridge. We dropped our gear and headed straight to their beer garden for a well-earned, ice-cold pint to cap off the day.

Parking

Parking is incredibly seamless. Use the on-site parking at The Pig at Bridge Place (Bourne Park Rd, Bridge, Canterbury CT4 5BH) to start and finish your day.
